Women and Generation X heirs are set to inherit $6.6 trillion of billionaire wealth by 2035, according to a report from wealth-intelligence firm Altrata. This transfer represents over a third of the global billionaire fortune amassed by 3,795 billionaires, the highest number ever recorded. More than 1,235 female spouses, who make up 90% of billionaire partners, will receive a significant portion of this wealth over the next decade, Fortune.com reported.
The report highlights that the current ultra-rich cohort is dominated by men over the age of 60, but the upcoming wealth transfer will narrow the gender gap in billionaire ownership. Altrata noted that the increasing frequency of inter-generational estate transfers and family gifting is driving this shift. As a result, women will gain greater decision-making power and ownership stakes in billionaire fortunes, potentially influencing entrepreneurial activities and philanthropic efforts.
This wealth transfer marks a notable change in the distribution of global billionaire assets, which currently total $15.1 trillion. The rise in female billionaire representation could expand female-focused wealth management services and increase venture capital involvement among wealthy women. The report suggests this shift may also encourage more diverse leadership and ownership structures in the ultra-wealthy segment.
Altrata’s findings underscore that by 2035, about 5,000 spouses and adult children will inherit billionaire wealth, with women poised to become the largest inheritors. This demographic change could reshape the landscape of wealth and influence among the world’s richest families over the next decade.
